Heritage Minister Karl Hampton today announced more than $200,000 would be provided to 13 projects across the Territory as part of this year’s Northern Territory Heritage Grants Program.
“The Territory Government understands the importance of maintaining and protecting our unique heritage sites,” Mr Hampton said.
“That is why we continue to offer about $200,000 each year in heritage grants to the private sector.
“Our heritage sites not only define our unique Territory identity, but are a major drawcard for tourists who come to the Territory.
“This year the Territory Government provided $1 million for the repairs and maintenance of Government-owned heritage sites – as well as providing $201,332 for the conservation of privately-owned heritage sites, research, documentation and interpretation of these places.”

“This includes $29,500 for the Aputula Social Club to undertake minor repairs and maintenance to the Old Police Station at Finke so the building can be turned into a museum and art gallery,” Mr Hampton said.
“The National Pioneer Women’s Hall of Fame Inc will also receive $25,382 to carry out research and provide the documentation required for the interpretation of the women’s section of the Old Alice Springs Gaol, which is part of the Alice Springs Heritage Precinct.
