Delia Lawrie MINISTER FOR PLANNING & LANDS |
The community is being asked to have their say on a proposed rezoning and residential development of privately owned land at Berrimah North.
The Minister for Planning and Lands, Delia Lawrie, today released draft concept plans to rezone about 30 hectares of privately owned land between
“The release of the draft concept plans is part of the Henderson Government’s Housing the Territory strategy to develop existing land and to increase land supply and provide more housing options for Territorians,” Ms Lawrie said.
“The draft concept plan is the first step in beginning discussions with land owners about rezoning the land from community purpose to residential use.
“The plan provides land owners with an opportunity to develop a mix of detached and multiple dwellings as well as some commercial development.”
Ms Lawrie said the Department of Planning and Infrastructure would consult all landowners in the affected area ahead of releasing a final concept plan.
“Suggestions and feedback from landowners will be taken into consideration before the final concept plans are released for a formal exhibition period,” she said.
“During the exhibition period advertisements will appear in local newspapers and members of the public can visit DPI’s website and are invited to provide the feedback which will be considered by the Development Consent Authority before providing advice to Government.”
Today’s announcement follows the release of the first stage of the new suburb of Johnston in Palmerston that will see 200 new housing lots released for sale off the plan from November this year.
“Fast-tracked land release along with the Henderson Government’s Buildstart Grant and Homestart NT loan scheme is helping more Territorians into their own home,” Ms Lawrie said.
