Mt Johns Valley Stage 1 Approved

The Minister for Planning and Lands, Delia Lawrie, and the Minister for Central Australia, Karl Hampton, today welcomed the approval of stage 1 of Mt Johns Valley land release in Alice Springs.

The Development Consent Authority this week approved the first stage subdivision for residential development on 14 hectares in Mt Johns Valley.

“Following the signing of the historic Land Use Agreement with the Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation the Mt Johns Valley development will deliver more housing options for Alice Springs,” Ms Lawrie said.

“The first stage will offer a range of blocks including 23 single dwelling blocks, four multiple dwelling blocks and land for construction of up to 50 units.

“The first blocks will be for sale off the plan next month with work on the subdivision development to begin by the end of the year and housing construction expected in the second half of next year.”

Mr Hampton said as well as increasing housing options for Alice Springs, the development will also provide a boost for Indigenous employment.

“Due to a strong economy the population of Alice Springs is growing which means there is more demand for housing in the town,” Mr Hampton said.

“As part of the ILUA, Lhere Artepe will provide significant Indigenous employment and training opportunities while the construction of houses will provide a boost to the Alice Springs economy.”
