Parap Gateway Redevelopment Begins
The tender has been awarded for the demolition of the Wirrina Flats and Town Houses on
Minister for Housing Rob Knight and Member for Fannie Bay Michael Gunner today inspected the site where work has begun on the Parap Gateway Redevelopment.
“The Territory Government is committed to delivering more land, putting more new properties on the market and reforming public housing,” Mr Knight said.
“The Parap Gateway Redevelopment will be the first major redevelopment of housing stock and is a long term investment in the future of Parap.

Member for Fannie Bay Michael Gunner said the current high density of public housing in Parap has created hot spots of anti-social behaviour, affecting residents, neighbours and local business.
“Redeveloping the old Wirrina site will get the balance right between private and public housing. It means less anti social behaviour and it makes Parap a better, safer place to live and visit,” Mr Gunner said.
The redevelopment is part of the Territory Government’s comprehensive Housing the Territory Framework and will enable the housing stock to be utilised by the Affordable Housing Rental Company, once established.
A number of affordable rental housing dwellings in the Wirrina redevelopment will be funded through the Commonwealth Government’s stimulus package.
“This project is delivering real results, tackling anti-social behaviour, creating new affordable housing opportunities for the private market and improving our public housing stock,” Mr Knight said.
