Bagot Community Election Commitment Underway

Work is underway on the first stage of a $4 million election commitment to upgrade the Bagot Community.

Minister for Local Government Rob Knight today attended the community to inspect the work, designed to improve security and safety on the community and to upgrade community facilities.

“This $850 000 first stage has been designed following extensive consultation with residents of Bagot Community,” Mr Knight said.

“This is an investment improving the life of Bagot residents and the amenity of the whole neighbourhood.”

Work being undertaken in the first stage includes:

·        fencing houses

·        installing water meters on houses

·        numbering houses

·        fencing and putting shade over the basketball court

·        upgrade of the basketball court ablution block

·        re-roofing the community hall

·        building a new ablution block, with disability access, for the community hall.

The first stage of works is being managed by the Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation.

“The Territory Government will continue to work with the community to plan the rest of the works,” Mr Knight said.
