$1.3 Million For 2009-10 Facility Development Grants

Sport and Recreation Minister Karl Hampton today announced the recipients of this year’s 2009-10 Facility Development Grants, worth almost $1.3 million.

This includes almost $683,000 being spent in the regions with all works undertaken supporting jobs throughout the Territory.

“The Territory Government is proud to play a major role in the provision of sporting facilities throughout the Territory through the infrastructure and grants programs,” Mr Hampton said.

“This year’s Facility Development Grants, worth almost $1.3 million, will be shared by 37 sport and active recreation organisations, Shires and Councils to benefit thousands of Territorians.

“More than $200,000 will go to organisations based in Alice Springs, including the Alice Springs Baseball Association Inc which will receive $50,000 for a new fencing enclosure at Jim McConville Park for junior baseball practice, local league competition and tournaments.

“Baseball is a much loved and growing sport in the Territory, and particularly in Alice Springs, which this year represented the Territory in the National Little League Tournament.

“The Territory Government’s $50,000 will help deliver better play and improved player and spectator comfort, as well as improving recruitment and retention of players.

Mr Hampton said other organisations that received a $50,000 share of this year’s $1.3 million Facility Development Grants include the Top End Motor Cross Club Inc to construct a clubhouse and the Northern Territory Rugby Union Inc to resurface the Austar Rugby Park car park and develop a facility masterplan.
