$2.4 Million Girraween Road Tender Awarded

Minister for Business, Dr Chris Burns, today announced the $2.4 million tender to upgrade and realign Girraween Road and Stuart Highway has been awarded to local company, Ostojic group.

“This major roads upgrade will make it safer for motorists to turn into and from Girraween Road and improve traffic flow at the Coolalinga intersection,” Dr Burns said.

“This $2.4 million project is part of the Henderson Government’s record $1.3 million infrastructure budget for 2009 that is delivering major roads upgrades across the Territory, protecting jobs and supporting business.

“The roadworks will create a new section of Girraween road to direct traffic to the signalised Stuart Highway and Coolalinga intersection, providing a safer traffic option.

Girraween Road will also directly access the commercial area on the outbound lane of the Stuart Highway, removing the current need to cross the Stuart Highway.

“A dedicated turning lane on Henning Road will also be built to reduce traffic bottlenecks for traffic turning left onto the Stuart Highway.

Darwin based company Ostojic Group will undertake the works which are expected to finish in early next year,” Dr Burns said.

Preparation work is already underway on-site and construction is scheduled to begin next month.
