Environment Minister Karl Hampton today urged Territorians to take advantage of the Territory Government’s Energy Smart Rebate Scheme.

 

“Using energy saving items in the home is a simple way to save money, save power and help the environment,” Mr Hampton said.

 

“Under the Scheme, householders can claim a 50 per cent rebate of up to $200 on the purchase and installation cost of selected energy saving items.

 

“The Territory Government’s Energy Smart Rebate Scheme has been in place for almost three months with more than $6000 in rebates already paid back to Territorians.

 

“To help spread the message about our Energy Smart Rebate Scheme, locally produced commercials will screen across Territory televisions from today.”

 

Territory households can save more than 1300kg per year of greenhouse gas emissions from their home by using energy smart products such as:

 

• 15 watt compact fluorescent light globes;
• A solar hot water booster relay switch; and
• Energy saving powerboards.

 

“Australian households generate almost 20 per cent of Australia’s greenhouse pollution, with half of household emissions coming from the use of electricity,” Mr Hampton said.

 

“Using less power at home will reduce your carbon footprint and impact on the environment and energy saving appliances are a great way to help Territorians do this.

 

“Energy efficient light globes cost as little as $2 each, while timers and power boards start at around $20.”
