NTIS Southern Region Awards

*Embargoed Until 8pm Friday, 30 October 2009*

Sport and Recreation Minister Karl Hampton tonight congratulated Northern Territory Institute of Sport (NTIS) southern region athletes on a successful year of achievements.

“The Territory Government is committed to helping Territory athletes reach their full potential and the NTIS plays an important role in reaching this goal,” Mr Hampton said.

“Tonight we celebrated a year of outstanding performances by our southern region players, coaches and volunteers and I wish everyone involved all the best for the future.

“The Territory Government has delivered more than $15 million in substantial infrastructure funding in Alice Springs over the last five years and we will continue to improve and upgrade these vital assets.”

The NTIS has supported over 150 athletes from around the Territory this year through squad and individual athlete scholarship programs.

“These athletes have access to the best level of expertise, services and resources available through our NTIS to improve their performances nationally and abroad,” Mr Hampton said.

“I also commend the efforts and the achievements of the NTIS coaches and support staff who play a vital role in assisting our Territory athletes’ progress along their pathway to success.”
