Malarndirri McCarthy MINISTER FOR WOMEN'S POLICY |
Minister for Women’s Policy, Malarndirri McCarthy, will be attending the second Ministerial Council to Reduce Violence Against Women in
Ms McCarthy said this is an important meeting that is putting in place a national long term approach to reduce violence against women.
“Violence against women and family is unacceptable and State, Territory and Federal Ministers are working together to develop and implement the National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women,” she said.
“At this meeting we’ll be discussing the latest draft and progressing the implementation of the first three year Action Plan.
“The plan will go beyond being just a government initiative, and will also involve the support of business and other sectors within the community.
“The Territory Government has taken a tough approach to domestic violence and led the way by introducing mandatory reporting, and we will ensure the Action Plan covers issues affecting Territorians,” Ms McCarthy said.

She will join Territory Attorney-General, Delia Lawrie at a Indigenous Justice and Community Safety roundtable hosted by the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General as well.
“Indigenous Policy Ministers and Attorneys-General are working together to look at important policies and plans to improve outcomes for Indigenous Australians,” Ms McCarthy said.
“We’ll be sharing our experiences in the Territory and the results we are achieving through implementing alcohol policies to reduce consumption and the harm it causes.”
