Karl Hampton MINISTER FOR PARKS AND WILDLIFE |
Minister for Parks and Wildlife, Karl Hampton, announced that this year there will be a series of free community events run by staff from the Parks and Wildlife Service across the Northern Territory.
“These events will involve a range of activities, including guided walks, working bees, information sessions and scientific surveys, along with the opportunity to be involved with environmental dates such as Clean Up Australia Day, World Environment Day and Australian Heritage Week,” Mr Hampton said.
“These free activities are not only fun for the whole family; they also embody this Government’s commitment to maintaining the Territory’s unique natural environment by adopting a collective community approach.
“The first of these community events will be held in Katherine and Alice Springs to support Clean Up Australia Day on March 4th.
“In Alice Springs, Parks and Wildlife crew will be meeting at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station picnic ground and working down the Riverside Walk.

Mr Hampton said that Clean Up Australia Day is now the nation’s largest community-based environmental event, the first official event started in Sydney in 1990.
“Since the event began, millions of people in the community have caught the bug to get involved and make a difference to their local environments – so I encourage everyone get involved and play your part,” Mr Hampton said.
