Support for grassroots sporting organisations has continued with the announcement of the first round of the 2006/07 Grass Roots Development Grants.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kon Vatskalis, said the grants are continuing to support new and innovative projects that promote opportunities for ongoing participation in sport and physically active recreation, with a particular focus on regional and remote organisations.
“Grass Roots sporting organisations are the lifeblood of sport in the Territory and it is crucial that we continue to support them,” Minister Vatskalis said.
“The great lifestyle and sporting opportunities enjoyed by Territorians is in a large part a result of the tremendous work that thousands of individuals do at the grass roots level.
“These grants recognise this work and the benefits that flow to the wider community.
“A total of 32 grants worth over $72 000 have gone to grass roots organisations right across the Territory.
“The grants of up to $3000 support new and innovative ideas that will increase participation and improve the capacity of the organisation.
“The grants will enable grass roots organisations to purchase new equipment, provide training, upgrade facilities and hold events.
“These organisations are integral to the social fabric of the Territory and the Martin Government will continue to support their growth and development,” Minister Vatskalis said.
