Minister for Sport and Recreation
The countdown to the Alice Springs Masters Games 2016 has begun with nominations for the Advisory Committee now open.
Sport and Recreation Minister Gary Higgins said initial planning work for the Friendly Games from October 8-15 had started.
“2016 marks a significant milestone in the history of the event with 2016 being the 30th anniversary of this iconic Territory event,” he said.
“With 3800 athletes and more than 500 volunteers involved in last year’s games and an even bigger contingent expected in 2016, the role the Games Advisory Committee plays will be an important one.
“The Committee will provide advice and feedback to me and the Department of Sport and Recreation on plans and concepts and be the conduit between the community and organisers.
“There will be six voluntary positions on the Advisory Committee, which will be chaired by the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Director of Events.
“We’re looking for enthusiastic committee members who have strong links to the Alice Springs community and who have appropriate and transferable skills.
“This is a great opportunity to become involved in an event that showcases our sporting facilities and our beautiful tourist attractions while promoting our healthy outdoor lifestyle.”
