A-League fans urged to ‘Do the NT’

The Northern Territory will be showcased as a must-do holiday destination to soccer fans in Adelaide this weekend.

“Adelaide United Football Club will host ‘Territory Day’ at their last home game for the season against Melbourne City as part of the club’s sponsorship with Tourism NT,” Chief Minister Adam Giles said.

“Saturday’s display will give Adelaide football fans a taste of the Territory in their own backyard, complete with baby crocodiles to touch and pose for photos with.

“Fans will also have the opportunity to have their printed croc photo signed by their favourite players and an electronic copy emailed to them for sharing on social media.”

Players already have the Do the NT logo on their jerseys and this tourism message will be reinforced with our Do the NT commercials featuring on the big screen during the game to encourage football fans to holiday in the Territory.

“Coopers stadium in Adelaide has a seating capacity of 17,000 and the match will be broadcast live on Foxsports providing valuable advertising exposure for the NT,” Mr Giles said.

“Importantly we will be encouraging the soccer crowd to take advantage of travel packages and flight promotions to Adelaide United’s games in the Territory in August.”

Adelaide United will play a local All Stars team in Alice Springs on Wednesday 19 August.

They will then play Melbourne City at Larrakia Park in Darwin on Saturday 22 August.

“The Territory’s agreement with Adelaide United brings first class games to both Darwin and Alice Springs, as well as sports development opportunities and team community engagement with locals,” Sport Minister Gary Higgins said.

“We couldn’t have picked a better team to partner with. Adelaide United are currently 5th on the A-League ladder. They are set to play in the finals series after a stellar past 12 months, which saw the Reds become the first club to win the FFA Cup in December.

“The Territory brand will also be on full show when Adelaide United play a special once-off exhibition match against Liverpool FC at Adelaide Oval on Monday 20 July this year.

“Liverpool are one of the world’s most successful football clubs and it will be great to encourage some of their international fans to come and Do the NT.”
