Minister for Sport and Recreation
Kezia Purick, Member for Goyder
The Northern Territory Government is providing Freds Pass Reserve user groups with grants towards improvements to upgrade equipment and basic facilities.
Sport and Recreation Minister Gary Higgins and the Member for Goyder Kezia Purick announced the funding today which is being made available within the current financial year.
“We’ve been working with the Freds Pass Sport and Recreation Management Board to address the needs of the reserve as well as the 19 groups who use this popular venue,” Mr Higgins said.
“This funding will go a long way to address some of the issues for the reserve and the Board but it’s not the end of it and the Member for Goyder has been a key instigator in focussing government’s attention on the reserve.”
The Government is providing $200,000 to the Board to be allocated to the user groups according to their priorities. The Government is also providing $50,000 for a review of power, water, drainage and road equipment.
“This is wonderful news and it’s great that this funding is happening sooner rather than later,” Ms Purick said.
“It’s a much needed injection into this well loved venue and I’m looking forward to discussing further possible funding of the reserve with the Minister.”
The Freds Pass Sport and Recreation Management Board will work with the user groups to determine a priority list of upgrades.
“Our work with the Board is not done though and I hope we can achieve an additional investment in coming weeks,” Mr Higgins said.
