The NT government is calling for applications from organisations whose primary business is animal welfare with the launch of the 2016-2017 Animal Welfare Fund Grant Programme
$200,000 will be made available to support not for profit organisations working to improve animal wellbeing, raise community awareness, and assist in fostering good animal management practices.
‘Territorians love animals. In the Northern Territory we own pets, visit wildlife reserves and are involved in animal production. This government, through the Animal Welfare Fund Grant program, is directly supporting groups working to recover animals suffering mistreatment and abuse,’ said Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries Gary Higgins MLA.
‘Last year funding under this programme went to organisations such as Wildcare Inc., RSCPA, ARK AID, Aboriginal Resource and Development Services and the Alice Springs Animal Shelter. I’m proud to be associated with this scheme, and will continue to fight for it in the future’.
The Animal Welfare Grant always generates a high amount of interest and the grant funding is usually fully allocated. This has been the case since the scheme was introduced in 2009-2010.
In 2015-16, eight organisations received funding for projects to improve their ability to deliver various activities benefitting animal welfare
Interested parties should note that the grants are only open for six weeks. This means applications close on 24 June 2016. Guidelines and application forms can be downloaded from www.animalwelfare.nt.gov.au
Eligible organisations can access up to $50,000 in grants out of a Northern Territory Government fund totalling $200,000
