Chief Minister of the Northern Territory
Chief Minister Michael Gunner will lead an international trade, engagement and investment mission to Japan, Korea and China from Thursday, 27 October to 6 November.
The trade mission will include the biggest ever delegation of Territory businesses to travel to China, a key trading partner, and one of the biggest to ever leave the NT.
Representatives from 68 Territory Businesses are making the trip to China.
The Chief Minister said the government was determined to promote the Northern Territory to the world and that this Team NT mission brought together industry, business and senior public servants to give the Territory as much exposure as possible.
“Japan and China are our largest and second largest trading partners respectively, and these visits are about building those relationships and strengthening the NT economy and creating jobs.” Mr Gunner said.
“Selling the Territory nationally and internationally is important for business, which is why I am leading this delegation, along with key department heads.
The first stop on the mission will be Japan, where the Chief Minister will meet with senior INPEX officials and government stakeholders.
“The Northern Territory is home to the Ichthys project, the single largest Japanese investment in Australia and also the largest Japanese investment outside of Japan,” Mr Gunner said.
“With a project life of 40 years, the project has, and will continue to, provide benefits and opportunities for the Territory.
“In Korea we will visit the construction site of the Shell’s Prelude and Ichthy’s Floating Production Storage and Offloading platform, both of which will be located in the Browse Basin.”
A Northern Territory business and industry delegation will join the Chief Minister for the China leg of the trip where they will participate in the Rizhao Economic Summit on 4 and 5 November in the Shandong Province.
Mr Gunner said the Rizhao forum would support Territory enterprises to connect with Chinese business people to discuss investment and trade opportunities.
