SCOMO SLICES FUNDING FOR TERRITORY KIDS

Today, the Federal Government has failed Territory students.

The $78 million over 10 years announced earlier today leaves Territory kids
facing an education cut of $150 million over that span.

They have now acknowledged their model is bad for the Territory – but their paltry $7.8m per year over 10 years doesn’t go nearly far enough.

The Northern Territory can’t be painted with the same brush as everyone else, we have a unique set of circumstances including unprecedented levels of disadvantage and remoteness.

The Territory Labor Government is putting in an additional $31 million a year, because we know education is the key to jobs, closing the gap, and a safer community. It’s time for them to show the same commitment.

Nigel Scullion and Gary Higgins are totally missing in action – Territorians are entitled to ask why they don’t care about our kids.

We will continue to fight. We will continue to try and get the Federal Government to do the right thing by our kids.
