Improving Health Services – EOI for New Territory-wide NT Clinical Senate

The Territory Labor Government is continuing to improve health services across the Territory and today is calling for Expressions of Interest for its new multi-disciplinary NT Clinical Senate.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles said the Senate will support high quality clinical governance and decision making for the Central Australian Health Service (CAHS) and Top End Health Services (TEHS).

“This is a key development in delivering high quality health services for Territorians,” Ms Fyles said.

“The Territory Labor Government is streamlining governance structures to improve services and save about $1 million dollars a year.

“Under the changes the two Health Boards governing CAHS and TEHS were dissolved on 30 June 2017. The new governance arrangements include establishing Health Advisory Committees in TEHS and CAHS, as well as a Territory-wide multi-disciplinary Clinical Senate.”

The two boards were established in July 2014 as part of the national health reforms that saw the creation of the Top End Health Service (TEHS) and Central Australia Health Service (CAHS).

Minister Fyles said these systems and processes have now matured and both Health Services are well and truly established, meaning the two boards are no longer needed.

“Service Administrators have been appointed to CAHS and TEHS as an interim measure while the Health Advisory Committees are established,” she said.

“Today we are calling for Expressions of Interest for the Territory-wide multi-disciplinary Clinical Senate that will ensure high quality clinical governance and decision making for the health services.”

The Senate will:

Territorians who currently or have previously practised as clinicians in the health system, or work for an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, or are relevant stakeholders in the health system are also encouraged to apply

Membership Expressions of interest open on 6 September and closes on 22 September 2017
