NT to be showcased at Japan Business Forum and Facing North

Trade and investment opportunities in the Territory will be showcased when Chief Minister Michael Gunner leads a delegation of industry leaders to the 2nd Japan-Northern Territory Business roundtable in Sydney this week.

The forum is an opportunity to further strengthen relations between the Northern Territory and Japan - a major trade and investment partner of the NT – as well as create new business and job opportunities for Territorians.

“The Territory Labor Government is focussed on promoting local business and investment opportunities to create and sustain jobs for Territorians,” Mr Gunner said.

“Japan is the Northern Territory’s largest investment and trading partner and I want to see us build on that.

“The Business Roundtable will give us another opportunity to further strengthen these relations between trading partners which is beneficial to the economic future of the Territory.”

Mr Gunner will also lead a delegation to Canberra this week for the Facing North function, which will showcase Territory business and industry to accelerate development of the Northern Australia.

Representatives from 14 Territory businesses are participating in the event, which is a collaboration between the Darwin Major Business Group and the NT Government.

“Facing North will play a big part in helping the NT to forge key relationships for future business and economic opportunities,” Mr Gunner said.

“Northern Australia and the Northern Territory is critical to the future prosperity and security of our Nation, and this collaboration is a strong demonstration of how Territory business, industry and government are working together to accelerate development of the North.

“There are key opportunities in our proximity to South-East Asia and China, and the benefits this can bring to the Territory and the broader national economy.”
