Safer Communities – More Permanent Resources for Katherine

Member for Katherine, Sandra Nelson today announced that Katherine would be getting a team of three Public Housing Safety Officers (PHSOs).

“All Territorians have the right to feel safe in their community, no matter where they live” said Ms Nelson.

“The new PHSOs will work with public housing tenants, neighbours and visitors to respond to and reduce anti-social behaviour.

“Katherine has previously been covered by Public Housing Safety Officers visiting from Darwin. The establishment of three permanent PHSO’s in Katherine will now support community safety and policing activities on a full-time basis.

“The previous government failed to invest in these crucial services in an intelligent, coordinated and sustained way.

“This Government is investing in generational change with long term, fully funded plans to invest in our children, fix the broken youth justice system and tackle alcohol abuse to create a safer Territory.”

Recruitment will begin this month before a rigorous selection and training process, with Katherine’s new PHSOs to be on the job this dry season.
