Minister for Housing and Community Development
Local businesses and our most vulnerable Territorians are benefiting through the Territory Labor Governments $69million public housing stimulus, which has begun.
Announced in March this year, the stimulus aims to create and support local jobs through repairs and maintenance to our public housing stock.
“Local jobs and better housing are top priorities for this government,” Minister Housing and Community Development, Gerry McCarthy said.
“So far, over $37 million in work is underway or completed, with local contractors and their sub-contractors benefiting from this program in every region.
“This work has included complete rebuilds, new kitchen refurbishments, new driveways, paintwork and roofing.
“At Tomaris Court in Darwin CBD we have already seen a dramatic improvement to the appearance and amenity of the complex with more upgrades to come.
“In Katherine and Tennant Creek work is underway to upgrade a number of public housing complexes and to address outstanding works in town camps.
Springs work is continuing to return long term vacant dwellings back into
service, as well as significant upgrades to public housing complexes and
continued work in town camps.
“It is expected that over 120 houses will be brought back online through this stimulus, allowing us to support more Territory families.”
