Turbocharging Live Darwin Arts Program

The Territory Labor Government, through the Turbocharging Tourism $103 million stimulus package, is investing an additional $500,000 to enrich and activate the Darwin CBD.

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss announced today the additional funding for Live Darwin Arts Round 3.

“Over the last year, the city has come to life with music and dance performances, laneway exhibitions, character walking tours and sound walks, art workshops as well as listening parties, live original outdoor music events, exhibitions and music workshops for children,” Ms Moss said.

“The Live Darwin Arts program has been embraced by our community and provides a platform for local artists and performers to showcase their talents, enhance visitors’ experiences and develop the Darwin CBD into a world-class cultural destination.

“It also extends the event season in Darwin beyond the Dry.”

Member for Port Darwin, Paul Kirby welcomed the creative and cultural activities to the Darwin CBD.

“It is fantastic to see public spaces come alive with our incredible local artists,” Mr Kirby said.

“I encourage art organisations, groups, individual artists and creative producers to get an application in as soon as possible.”

Live Darwin Arts prioritises activities for the Darwin CBD that activate and partner with business, retail and property owners and support diverse art opportunities.

Applicants are encouraged to partner with Darwin’s Live Hub in the Mall as the focus venue coordinating and supporting CBD activation programs.

Projects from Round 2 included a mix of art forms throughout the CBD, such as a 10 week dance residency ‘Tracktivation’ by Tracks Dance Company, audio walking tours and ‘Atmos’ pop-up listening parties, lunchtime concerts, and exhibitions and painting workshops by Darwin artists.

Funding of up to $50,000 will be available for activities to start after the Darwin Festival from 27 August to 31 December 2018, with local non-profit arts organisations, arts producers and groups encouraged to apply.

Applications open on 18 May and close on 18 June 2018.

Funding of up to $100,000 will also be available towards Producer and Production Support for the delivery of Live Darwin Arts Round 3 in collaboration with Arts NT.
