Generational Change: Teacher Scholarships for Additional Needs Study open

The Territory Labor Government is again offering scholarships for local teachers to undertake graduate training in special needs education, to better support all students.

Applications for round two of the Teacher Scholarship – Supporting NT Students are now open and Education Minister Eva Lawler encouraged teachers to apply.

“Every Territory child deserves access to great education, regardless of their circumstance,” Ms Lawler said.

“These scholarships are part of our key election commitment to invest $40 million over four years in early intervention, flexible schooling, and to support students with additional needs.”

As part of this investment, 20 scholarships are on offer each year for teachers in government and non-government schools, enabling them to develop their skills and obtain formal qualifications in teaching children with additional needs.

“We are developing our teaching workforce and providing an engaging and inclusive education for all Territory students,” Ms Lawler said.

“These scholarships will encourage more teachers to gain qualifications in special education, to provide greater support for students with additional needs, so they can better engage in their learning, grow and achieve their full potential.”

Successful applicants will receive up to $8500 each to complete an online Graduate Certificate in Education (Special Education) through Flinders University.

Applications close on Friday, June 1 for courses commencing in Semester 2, 2018.
