The Territory Labor Government is investing $700,000 to build two new women’s changerooms at Larrakia Park, Darwin Football Stadium, in a win for women’s soccer –and local jobs - across the Top End.
The provision of additional changerooms and ablutions for Darwin Football Stadium will support the growth of female participation in the popular sport.
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss said the new changerooms were a positive step to providing better access and facilities for women’s sport, in particular, soccer.
The new changerooms will include private entry for players, bench seating, toilet and shower facilities, designed in consultation with women players. Externally fixed louvre screens will be installed to allow for ventilation throughout the day.
The addition of these changerooms will mean female footballers are able to change in fit for purpose rooms separate to male competitors.
With expected completion set prior to the beginning of the 2019 season, female footballers will now have a new reason to aim higher on the pitch.
