The Plan to Fix the Budget: Pay Freeze for Politicians and Public Service Executives

The Territory Labor Government today announced a three-year pay freeze for all NT Politicians and Public Sector Executives.

The tough measure will save $25 million over the three years and is part of Government’s Plan to Fix the Territory Budget - which will be announced in full tomorrow.

The Plan will see the implementation of a raft of recommendations by former WA Under-Treasurer John Langoulant, as well as immediate savings identified in Government’s Root and Branch review of programs.

The Territory Labor Government is taking action to fix the budget after:

The plan to fix the budget will include tough decisions to ensure Government can continue investing in local jobs, generational change and tackling crime.

It will protect front-line workers like teachers, nurses and police and will include important reforms to maximise private investment and create local jobs.

Quote from Chief Minister Michael Gunner:

"We will deliver a plan to fix the budget so we can continue investing in jobs, generational change and cutting crime.

"It’s only fair that heavy lifting is also done by freezing politicians and executive pay for three years.

"We will not be taking the CLP approach of slashing and burning the public service, sacking teachers and massive increases in power prices".
