Boosting the Economy: $1 million Boost to Economy as Darwin Secures 2020 Australia Indonesia Business Council Conference

The Northern Territory will host the Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) Biennial Conference in Darwin in October 2020.

More than 400 Indonesian and Australian business executives and government leaders will converge in Darwin next October injecting close to $1 million into the local Territory economy.

Next year’s conference theme is ‘Looking North – Shifting Up a Gear’, highlighting the unique place the Northern Territory has in Australia’s relationship with Indonesia, and with our other Asian counterparts further to the north.

With around 70 presenters, including Indonesian and Australian Ministers, this conference will provide a platform for the Territory to be recognised as the optimal trading partner for our Asian neighbours.

The AIBC is the peak national member-based business association involved with the promotion and facilitation of trade and investment between Australia and Indonesia.

The NT Government assisted the Northern Territory chapter of the AIBC to develop the Northern Territory bid for the 2020 conference in consultation with the Northern Territory Convention Bureau.

Quotes Attributed to Minister for Primary Industry and Resources, Paul Kirby:

“Darwin has nabbed the right to host this Conference, and as a result the spinoff for local business and local jobs will be enormous.

“Indonesia is one of the Territory’s closest neighbours and oldest friends and fifth largest trading partner and third largest export destination.

“The Territory is home to a strong Indonesian population and Indonesia continues to be a favourite holiday destination for Territorians.

Quotes attributed to Australia Indonesia Business Council National President, Phil Turtle:

“The Australia Indonesia Business Council is delighted to be bringing this conference to Darwin next October.

“With Darwin being our closest capital to Indonesia, enjoying trading and strong cultural linkages dating back hundreds of years, Darwin presents as an ideal venue for our AIBC Conference 2020.

“It will also be the first time we have hosted our Conference in the Territory, and we are excited to be able to offer our delegates a very different and unique experience.”
