Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing
Territory sporting organisations are invited to apply for the first round of the Government’s 2014 Grass Roots Development Investment Program, which opens today.
Under the program, sport and recreation clubs or groups can access funding of up to $3000 to go towards projects that will encourage more Territorians to stay active.
“Territorians love their sport and recreation and our grass roots clubs play such an important role in the social fabric of our communities,” said Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing Matt Conlan.
“The Grass Roots Development Investment Program provides the opportunity for sport and recreation organisations right across the Territory to strengthen and improve the delivery their programs at a grass roots level.
“Examples of some of the projects which have been successful in the past include training to develop the skills of administrators, coaches and officials, and assistance with staging ‘come-and-try’ events and projects targeted at attracting new participants.
“The Country Liberals Government is committed to growing sport at the grassroots level because we know it will help build healthier communities and a confident culture in the Territory that embraces our great lifestyle.
“I encourage all eligible organisations to apply and think about how this funding could assist them in offering more opportunities for Territorians to get involved in sport and active recreation.”
The Northern Territory Government supports sport and active recreation clubs, committing a total of $190 000 for the 2014/15 Grass Roots Development Investment Program rounds.
Applicants may apply for up to $3000 for projects designed to achieve the two main objectives of this grant program, which are to:
· Provide opportunities to participate in sport and active recreation; and
· Strengthen the capability of sport and active recreation organisations and shire councils to deliver services and programs that make for a more active Territory.
Round one of the Grass Root Sports Development Program for 2014/15 is now open and will close on Tuesday August 5 2014. A second round will open later in the year.
