Gates open for the Darwin Boat, Travel and Leisure Show

Office of the Chief Minister

The Northern Territory’s outdoor lifestyle is on show this Father’s Day weekend, with the inaugural Darwin Boat, Travel and Leisure Show being held at Marrara Stadium.

Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries Willem Westra van Holthe said more than 10,000 people are expected to walk through the gates.

“The Darwin Boat, Travel and Leisure Show is a one stop shop for fishing, travel and outdoor needs, with something to interest people from all walks of life,” Minister Westra van Holthe said.

“More than 50 exhibitors will be showcasing their wares, including most major boat dealers, camping providers, tackle shops and leisure exhibitors.

“There will be something for the entire family, with entertainment, food demonstrations and informative talks throughout the two day event.

“Tourism NT will also be on hand to provide information about the Million Dollar Fish Campaign, including registration details,” Minister Westra van Holthe said.

The Northern Territory Government is a proud supporter of the event, with $20,000 provided through the Departments of Fisheries, Transport and Business.

Darwin Game Fishing Club President Steven Roberts said after a brief absence of a local boat show, the Club is pleased to present the inaugural Darwin Boat, Travel and Leisure Show.

“This event would not be possible without the generous support of the NT Government and associated Government Departments. Without their support the club would not have been able to keep admission prices low, $5 per adult or $10 for the whole family,” Mr Roberts said.

“The show is a community event, designed to appeal to Territorians and Tourists alike, to showcase our incredible lifestyle within ‘our backyard’, which we all are able to regularly enjoy. The support and enthusiasm for the show to return from exhibitors and the public has been extremely positive.

“The Darwin Game Fishing Club is a ‘not for profit’ organisation and thanks the group of dedicated club members who have volunteered to assist over the weekend,” Mr Roberts said.
