Millie the mobile mammogram screening truck is gearing up for an adventure as she prepares to be barged out to northeast Arnhem Land and other Top End communities as part of her yearly schedule offering services to remote Territorians.
BreastScreenNT’s big bright pink truck is easily recognised wherever she goes and highly visible, and many communities take the opportunity of a visit from Millie to run a raft of other health promotions.
Millie was at Parliament House today and will remain there until Friday, offering free 20-minute appointments to women aged 50-74. She will screen approximately 1200 women during her 2019 schedule. She has screened more than 5700 women since 2014. Screening is recommended every two years.
To book an appointment call 13 20 50 or visit www.nt.gov.au to find out more.
Quotes from Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:
“The Territory Labor Government is improving access to quality health services for Territorians and funds Millie’s schedule to more than 20 remote communities.
“Millie will venture across the Top End by road and by barge, and I encourage as many eligible women as possible to use her services.
“Regular mammograms can detect lumps too small to feel and the early detection of breast cancer can save lives.
“In addition to Millie’s tour, Territory women can also access breast health services at clinics in Casuarina and Palmerston, and BreastScreenNT visits Alice Springs twice a year for five- week blocks in May/June and October/November.”
