Safer Communities – New Katherine Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Complex Opens

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government is creating safer communities by ensuring our frontline emergency responders have the best resources possible.

Today the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Nicole Manison attended the opening of the new $8.5 million Katherine Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Complex.

The facility created around 240 jobs during construction, and will be home to 15 career and auxiliary Fire and Rescue staff and Emergency Service volunteer staff.

The new station will provide modern firefighting and emergency capability needs and will improve response times to allow NTPFES to provide services more effectively.

It includes additional workspace for vehicles and safety equipment, new training facilities, and accommodation for fire crews or volunteers on standby.

Quotes from Minister for Police Fire and Emergency Services Nicole Manison:

“The Territory Labor Government is ensuring our vital emergency personnel have the best resources possible to do the tough job they have.

“This facility will ease the cramped conditions of the old fire station and provide Katherine Firefighters and emergency service volunteers with a modern facility that they need and that they deserve. It also gives our hardworking Katherine police more operational space at their station.”

“This is a great investment for community safety in Katherine.”

Quotes from Local Member for Katherine Sandra Nelson:

“18 years of lobbying by the dedicated firefighters, volunteer firefighters and so many members of our Katherine community for a new facility has finally become a reality.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in this project.”
