Safer Communities and Creating Jobs: Demolition Tender Award for John Stokes

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government has awarded the $1.1 million contract to local business NTEX (NT Excavations and Demolitions), to demolish and clear the site to begin redeveloping John Stokes Square.

Once the site has been cleared, construction works will commence to improve the amenity and reinvigorate the area.

The larger work to redevelop John Stokes Square will include:

  • A 24 Hour Police Station;
  • Specifically designed homes for seniors and people living with disabilities;
  • A pedestrian-friendly link between the Nightcliff Village and Nightcliff Shopping Centre; and
  • Open space and the expansion of local services

These works will support more than 250 local jobs over the lifetime of the project.

Demolition is scheduled to commence over the coming weeks and is anticipated to be completed by July 2019.
