‘Bruce Munro: Tropical Light’ Industry Briefing Sessions for Local Businesses

Office of the Chief Minister

Territory businesses are invited to attend a briefing session and/or workshop to start planning their own tour and product offerings to make the most of the ‘Bruce Munro: Tropical Light’ exhibition.

‘Bruce Munro: Tropical Light’ will feature eight illuminated sculptures placed throughout the Darwin CBD. Combined with works from local artists, they will create a 2.5km art trail. The Exhibition will run from 1 November 2019 until 30 April 2020, to attract visitors to Darwin and locals to the CBD during our tropical summer season. Expressions of Interest are open now for local artists to get involved, visit www.tropicallight.com.au.

This is the first time the world-renowned artist has created a city-wide exhibition, and there will be many opportunities for local businesses to leverage the attention and foot traffic a Bruce Munro exhibition attracts.

To learn more about these opportunities, Darwin businesses are encouraged to attend an industry briefing session to brainstorm ideas, explore opportunities for product development, capability building and tourism trade engagement.

On Tuesday there is an information session for CBD retailers, on Thursday a session for tourism and hospitality operators and on Friday workshops for hoteliers, restaurateurs and tourism operators.

NT Major Events Company, Tourism NT and Tourism Top End have already held an industry briefing session, and provided businesses with access to a Dropbox full of collateral they can use to promote the exhibition. This is available now and is being constantly updated with new material. For access email tourism.development@nt.gov.au

Quotes from the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

“The Territory Labor Government continues to invest in the arts and tourism industry because creating jobs for Territorians is our number one priority.

“There are significant potential spin-off benefits for tourism and hospitality operators, retailers and hoteliers off the back of Tropical Light, which is expected to attract thousands of additional visitors over our traditionally quieter months.

“I encourage Darwin businesses operators to get along to the briefing sessions and workshops to find out what opportunities are available and to start planning tours and other potential offerings around the exhibition.

“Tropical Light will ignite Darwin from October this year and we want to see local businesses maximising their economic return off the back of this world-first event.”
