Creating Jobs, Revitalising the CBD: Austin Lane Contract Awarded

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government is creating jobs and revitalising Darwin’s CBD with works on Austin Lane awarded to local contractor PTM Group Pty Ltd for $824,000.

This project will create cool vibrant spaces and improve connectivity and walkability as visitors and locals travel through Austin Lane to Smith Street Mall, Rain Tree Park and Knuckey Street.

Austin Lane is already an exciting space for displaying local artwork, with several beautiful street works on display.

These works will further enhance the city’s centre by creating a more inviting and engaging experience for visitors and Territorians to enjoy.

In partnership with the City of Darwin works to revitalise Austin Lane are expected to support 40 local jobs and will include:

  • creating two new covered walkways between Cavenagh Street and The Mall;
  • installing new tree plantings; and
  • installing seating and upgraded kerbing.

This job-creating project is part of the historic $200 million Cities Deal and the Territory Labor Government’s broader vision for a cooler, revitalised CBD.

Works are expected to starting in the coming months and be completed at the end of 2019.
