The Territory Labor Government is investing to improve the lives of Aboriginal Territorians and is asking for public input to guide its 10 year Aboriginal Affairs Strategy.
Everyone Together is a 10 year blueprint for all government agencies to put Aboriginal people at the centre of government policy design and service delivery, to empower communities to determine their own futures.
The draft strategy has been released today for public consultation and will be available on the NT Government’s Have Your Say website for at least six weeks.
The Strategy’s 10 focus areas include:
· Truth and Healing
· Language and Culture
· Land and Sea
· Children and Families
· Housing and Essential Infrastructure
· Health
· Education
· Jobs and Economy
· Safety
· Justice
The final Everyone Together Aboriginal Affairs Strategy will be released in late 2019. It is available for public comment at https://haveyoursay.nt.gov.au/everyone-together-2019
Quotes attributable to Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Selena Uibo:
“The Territory Labor Government’s Aboriginal Affairs agenda is centred on empowerment, local decision making, self-determination and ensuring land and sea ownership delivers on economic and social aspirations.
“We are supporting local decision making in remote communities, because local decisions are the best decisions, and this draft 10 year Aboriginal Affairs Strategy, Everyone Together, reflects that policy.
“We are also investing $1.1 billion in remote housing over 10 years, to reduce overcrowding, with 1500 homes completed in three years.
“We are investing in the expansion of early childhood services in remote communities, to give all children, no matter where they live, the best start in life.
“Investing in Aboriginal Affairs not only benefits Aboriginal Territorians, it benefits all Territorians.
“I encourage everyone to have a look at the draft Everyone Together strategy, and to have their say to guide the final version.”
