Bruce Munro: Tropical Light - Installation Begins in Darwin CBD

Office of the Chief Minister

Darwin is one step closer to viewing the new world-class Bruce Munro: Tropical Light exhibition with the installation of the eight illuminated sculptures commencing across the CBD.

Starting with the ‘Water-Towers’ at the Darwin Waterfront Sea Wall, the exhibition will be fully installed by 30 October, ready for the launch on 1 November 2019.

The Bruce Munro Studio team will lead the installation phase, with support from Fusion Exhibition and Hire Services, Bunnings Warehouse, Clontarf Academy and Walk Darwin.

Bunnings Warehouse Darwin and Palmerston are providing the installation teams with tools and equipment as part of their sponsorship agreement.

Volunteers are still being sought to join the Tropical Light 200 Club, with roles such as exhibition hosts, artwork minders and visitor engagement promoters on offer.

All funds raised as part of the volunteer program will go to charity CanTeen, to help Territory families dealing with cancer.

Bruce Munro: Tropical Light is a free event and will run from 1 November 2019 to 30 April 2020. For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, visit www.tropicallight.com.au

Quotes from the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

“From 1 November, Darwin will play host to the Tropical Light exhibition, the first of its kind, which is set to increase visitation and business opportunities throughout the Darwin CBD, giving our economy a much-needed boost over a traditionally quieter time for tourism.

“Locals and visitors will be dazzled by the incredible illuminated sculptures that are being installed across the city.

“The local community have come together for Tropical Light, and this exhibition would not be possible without the support of our generous sponsors and volunteers.

“I would encourage everyone to volunteer for the Tropical Light 200 Club and support CanTeen to help raise vital funds for Territory families dealing with cancer.”

Quotes from Bunnings Darwin Activities Organiser, Trish Visser:

“Our team are proud to be providing some hands-on help with building and installing the installations, as well as supplying some tools and equipment.

“It’s been a really great opportunity to support an event that brings the community together and showcases local artists.”
