Territory Tourism Vouchers Generate $3.3 Million for Local Businesses in a Fortnight

Office of the Chief Minister

Two weeks into the Tourism Voucher scheme, Territorians have redeemed over 4,500 vouchers generating $3.3 million in bookings, providing a strong boost for local operators.

Under the $5.2 million Territory Labor Government scheme aimed at getting residents out exploring their backyard and supporting local businesses, the full allocation of vouchers was snapped up within nine hours.

Residents with a voucher must book within 30 days for travel completed by 31 October 2020. For those who do not redeem their voucher within 30 days, their $200 allocation will go back into the funding pool.

Territorians who missed out on a voucher can sign up on the wait list for possible further allocations at www.territoryvoucher.nt.gov.au.

The scheme was developed in partnership with Northern Territory Regional Tourism Organisations, Tourism Top End and Tourism Central Australia.

Vouchers can be spent with one of the four Visitor Information Centres (Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek) on any bookable accommodation, tour, attraction or car hire either online, over the phone or in person.

Quotes from Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

“The results so far for our Territory Tourism Voucher scheme are phenomenal – over $3.3 million in sales and no one could have foreseen the full allocation of vouchers within nine hours on Territory Day!

“Just a fortnight in, Territory businesses are seeing strong results from the $5.2 million initiative which we anticipate will translate into $10.4 million in visitor expenditure into our economy.

“Right now the weather is phenomenal and there’s never been a better time to book your Territory experience, explore your own backyard and support our local operators.”

Quotes from Member for Port Darwin, Paul Kirby, MLA:

“It’s never been more important for Territorians to get behind our local businesses as we slowly rebound from the impacts of COVID-19.

“The NT is the safest place in the country and with our borders re-opening on Friday, we urge Territorians to get in and secure their bookings so they don’t miss out.

“The Territory Tourism Voucher initiative is also seeing hospitality venues benefiting through partnerships with tourism and accommodation providers with strong sales in packaged deals.”
