More Support for Businesses with Extended Restrictions

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Government has announced an extra Small Business Lockdown Payment today, offering an additional $1000 to businesses which couldn’t open this week due to current COVID-19 restrictions, such as gyms, yoga studios and market holders.

This payment is available in addition to the initial Business Lockdown Payment which is also a one-off payment of $1000 - bringing the total for this cohort to $2000.

So far, over 2650 businesses have applied for the Small Business Lockdown Payment and we have already awarded over $1 million in payments.

Eligible small businesses for the additional payment are those with a turnover above $75,000 and below $10 million and no more than 20 full time equivalent staff, and who had to remain closed following the Chief Health Officer’s direction.

If you are one of the businesses that were directed to stay closed, please visit https://businessrecovery.nt.gov.au/ to find out more about how you can apply for this additional payment.

Updated Terms and Conditions for both payments will also be available online https://businessrecovery.nt.gov.au/.

Quotes from Minister for Small Business, Paul Kirby:

“We know that some Territory small businesses have been hit harder than others – that’s why we’ve increased this support package to recognise that our gyms, fitness centres and market stalls are continuing to do it tough.”

“We’ve been backing our Small Businesses since Covid-19 first hit the Territory, and we will continue to back them, while ensuring all Territorians are safe.”

“As soon as these important restrictions are lifted, I encourage all Territorians to get out there and support our businesses – grab a smoothie at your local markets, pick up something special at one of our many retail stores or grab a bite to eat at your local restaurants.”
