Territory Vaccine Appointments Set To Surge

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government’s nation-leading vaccine rollout is picking up the pace with 3100 new appointments coming online for the Greater Darwin area today.

Meanwhile, Territorians in the Top End will soon have more flexibility to book their appointments with the Darwin COVID-19 Vaccination Centre scheduled to operate seven days a week from 9 August, 2021.

More vaccine appointments are also opening up in Katherine with 1500 bookings now online.

Territorians are rolling up their sleeves in strong numbers with 88,841 first doses administered to 46.6% of the eligible population.

The Territory has hit a new milestone with more than 50,000 second doses now administered in the Territory, accounting for 26.64% of the eligible population, compared to 16.7% nationally.

Positive vaccination rates are being recorded more broadly across the Top End, Central Australia and remote communities.

More than 41% of remote Territorians have received their first vaccine dose and 23% have received their second dose.

Vaccine appointments in the Top End can also be booked at Danila Dilba Health Service, the Palmerston GP Super Clinic and at participating GPs and pharmacists.

Priority for Greater Darwin appointments will be given to the following groups based on advice from the Public Health Advisory Group:

- Indigenous Australians

- People aged 30-59 years

- Transport workers

- Pregnant women

- People with a medical condition

- Health, quarantine, aged care, disability, high risk industry and border workers

- People with an exemption to travel overseas.

Quotes attributable to Health Minister Natasha Fyles:

“The Territory Labor Government has been leading the nation and now we have an opportunity to further accelerate the vaccine rollout.

“We are working closely with the Commonwealth Government which is delivering 10,000 additional doses to the Northern Territory per week.

“We were the first to collapse the tranches and open the vaccine up to the entire eligible population and we were the first to make the vaccine available to people over the age of 16.”
