Building Better Schools and Creating Jobs

Local businesses and families in the rural area are set to benefit from the construction of two new general learning areas at Girraween Primary School.

Minister for Education, Eva Lawler, said the NT Government is partnering with the Girraween Primary School Council to meet the growing needs of students in the rural area while supporting Territory jobs.

“The Territory Labor Government will always invest in education because we care about the Territory’s future and we know that quality infrastructure is important for meeting the needs of students now and into the future,” Ms Lawler said.

The project is partly funded under the NT Government’s Building Better Schools initiative, delivering on a key election promise to provide every Territory school with $300,000 to improve facilities.

Girraween Primary School was approved for Round 1 Building Better Schools funding and, due to an increase in student numbers, decided to put the money towards the new classrooms.

“This funding has provided a great opportunity for the school to meet the needs of their students,” Ms Lawler said.

“This project, and others under the Building Better Schools initiative, will continue to provide a stream of work for local companies across the Territory.”

The tender for the work is out now and will close on March 19. To find out more, visit
