Renal Unit Upgrades to Create 120 jobs

Local Territory contractor Sitzler Pty Ltd has today been awarded the $10.5 million contract to redevelop the existing renal unit in Nightcliff.

The expansion and upgrade of the Nightcliff Renal Unit will provide a fit for purpose clinical services facility and will create over 120 jobs including 17 Indigenous employees and seven apprentices.

28 chairs are being relocated from the old area to the new area, with four new chairs.

Alongside the upgraded treatment area, works will include a new patient consultation and reception area, new staff area comprising several offices and expanded amenities, service and utility zones, upgraded parking facilities, site landscaping and improved outdoor amenities.

The project will be delivered in a three stage program of building works to maintain continuous functioning of the renal clinic whilst the upgrades are undertaken.

Safety of existing patients, staff and visitors and the continuous operation of the facility throughout the entire building program has been carefully planned in consultation with Top End Health Services.

Works will commence in mid to late November.

The Territory Labor Government continues to invest in health services and facilities, with this latest project set to create 120 new jobs.

The Territory Labor Government’s number one priority is creating new jobs, and the upgrades to the Nightcliff Renal Unit will also provide a significant boost in renal services.

This is off the back of recent job creating health projects, including:

·         Palmerston Regional Hospital Construction created 380 jobs.

·         Palmerston Regional Hospital delivery created and supported 300 new ongoing jobs.

·         The current health house demolition has created 250 jobs

·         Free Multistorey Carpark at Royal Darwin Hospital created 150 jobs

·         Upgrades to Gove Hospital created 35 jobs
