Traeger Park surface deemed unsuitable for BBL match

Office of the Chief Minister

It’s very disappointing for local fans and players that due to the poor condition of the oval at Traegar Park, Cricket Australia have advised that the Big Bash League game in Alice Springs on February 9th can’t go ahead.

As the responsibility to prepare and maintain the oval to the required standard sits entirely with the Alice Springs Town Council, I expect that Cricket Australia and the Alice Springs Town Council will now conduct a full review of the issues that have caused the ground to fall short of the required standard, to ensure that Traeger Park can host Big Bash League games in the future.

We will also be working with the Adelaide Strikers and Cricket Australia to ensure that the cancellation of the game comes at no cost to the NT taxpayers.
