Boosting Health Services: Free Dental Care For Territory Kids

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government is delivering high-quality health services with free public dental care available for all children up to 18 years old in the Northern Territory.

As school goes back this week it is a timely reminder to stay on top of your child’s oral health and book a free dental check-up.

Dental therapists and oral health therapists can provide dental checks, treatment and advice on a range of issues including pain and trauma management, emergency care, fillings, repairs and oral hygiene.

The free service also provides some specialist services, including, orthodontics, oral surgery and special needs dentistry.

This service is delivered through school-based clinics, community clinics and remote health centres.

Quotes from the Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:

“Every Territory child, no matter where they live, deserves to have access to high-quality dental services.”

“The NT has the second highest rate of tooth decay in young children and by raising awareness of our free paediatric dental services and encouraging parents to book in for a check-up today, we hope to decrease these statistics.”

“NT Oral Health Service provides an outreach program to remote NT communities to ensure that remote communities can also access these dental services.”
