The Territory Labor Government is creating safer communities by employing 75 Police Auxiliary Liquor Inspectors (PALIs) to stop problem drinkers getting access to alcohol.

Today Attorney General Natasha Fyles met with the third squad of PALIs before their official swearing in ceremony on Friday.

Upon graduation, this third squad will bring the total number of PALIs to 62 manning our bottle shops - 39 in Alice Springs, 19 in Katherine and 4 in Tennant Creek.

Since PALIs have been in place in Alice Springs, they have helped to drive down alcohol related assaults and domestic violence offences.

Between September and November 2018, alcohol related assaults have reduced by 42% in Alice Springs compared to the same period in 2017, and domestic violence related assaults have reduced by 34% over the same period. 

Recruitment for the fourth squad is underway.
