Fighting for Territorians with a Disability: COAG Disability Reform Council

Office of the Chief Minister

Minister for Disabilities, Natasha Fyles, took part in an extraordinary meeting of the COAG Disability Reform Council today regarding the Royal Commission into the Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability announced by the Prime Minister.

At the meeting Ms Fyles provided the Territory Labor Government’s in-principle support for the Royal Commission, which will now be confirmed through the Cabinet process.

Quotes from Minister for Disabilities, Natasha Fyles:

“All Territorians deserve to feel safe, and today I reaffirmed the Territory Labor Government’s position that we support a Royal Commission into the Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.

“COAG was an opportunity for all the States and Territories to constructively discuss what the Royal Commission will involve.

“I raised how Territorians might be engaged in the Royal Commission, highlighting the fact it is important the voices of those in remote and regional areas are also heard.

“The abuse of Territorians with a disability will not be tolerated.”
