The Territory Labor Government is improving cancer services with the release of its strategy to better coordinate cancer care.
The NT Government developed the NT Cancer Care Strategy 2018-2022 March 2019 Edition in collaboration with the NT Cancer Care Network and key stakeholders.
The Territory Labor Government has delivered on its promise to invest in cancer care by establishing the NT’s first PET scanner, expanding the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre and Alice Springs Hospital chemotherapy unit, and providing greater access to precision medicine for those with rare cancers.
Around 800 Territorians are diagnosed with cancer each year. The Strategy will help further integrate and improve cancer care services, so treatment is delivered in the best way possible for each patient.
The Strategy is available online at https://health.nt.gov.au/health-governance/nt-health-strategies
Quotes from Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:
“Territorians deserve access to quality health services, and the Cancer Care Strategy provides a clear focus on how we can build on what we have already achieved for Territory cancer patients.
“The 2018 Budget allocated $35.3 million over five years for cancer care services, and this Strategy will help us identify priority areas for investment.
“We will particularly focus on integrating cancer care services, as we know improving links between screening, diagnostic and treatment services is integral in providing the best care.
“Cancer care services will continue to be rolled out over the coming year, and the cyclotron will be commissioned to prepare isotopes for the PET scanner.”
