Budget 2019 Passed – Putting Territorians First

Office of the Chief Minister

Budget 2019, which passed through Parliament today, puts Territorians first by creating local jobs, delivering a safer Territory and driving generational change.

Budget 2019 also shows that Government’s plans are working and that the economy is beginning to turn for the better as the Territory transitions from the Inpex construction phase wind down.

It also starts delivering on Government’s plan to Fix the Territory Budget to address the Federal Government’s brutal $500 million annual GST cuts and the $876 million deficit left by the train-wreck former CLP Government.

Key highlights of Budget 2019 include:

·         $16.6 million for the most generous homebuyer assistance in the country

·         $1.45 billion Infrastructure investment to create local jobs

·         $62.8 million over two-years for tourism package Turbo2 (following the success of Turbo-charging 1).

·         Subsidies to keep saving Territory families $1,200 a year off their power bills

·         $34 million to tackle alcohol abuse

·         Continue delivering of Labor Government’s $1.1 billion investment into remote housing

Quotes from Treasurer Nicole Manion:

“Only a Territory Labor Government will invest in creating local jobs, delivering a safer Territory and driving generational change – Budget 2019 does just that.

“We are also implementing our plan to fix the budget, by making tough decisions in a way that’s fair – this includes ensuring politicians and public service executives do the heavy lifting through a pay freeze.

“When in government the CLP cut teachers, put up power prices by 30% and sold government assets like the port and TIO.”
