Showcasing Territory Talent: NT Arts Grants Program Round 2 Recipients

Office of the Chief Minister

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss today announced an investment of $200,000 into 16 arts projects across the Territory.

The NT Arts Grants Program provides funding to artists, groups and organisations for projects that explore, develop and profile arts and culture in the NT.

Project highlights include:

  • The Legato Orchestral Experience, a three day music camp to be held from 17-19 July 2019 in Darwin for children aged between 7 and 17. The children will be mentored by professional musicians from the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and the Darwin community and have the opportunity to be part of a musical ensemble.
  • Artist book on Humpty Doo written by emerging artist Liss Fenwick. The experimental artist book focusses on young people from the Humpty Doo area through documentary style portraits and landscapes and aims to create new stories about our identity.
  • Klughe-Rue Aboriginal Art Collection residency will see Yolngu artist Anna Ramatha along with her mother Lucy Armstrong, a noted Yolngu fibre artist from Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts Aboriginal Corporation, spend three weeks as artists in residence working with curators and students to curate and install an upcoming exhibition from the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection at the University of Virginia. The artists will also deliver workshops as part of the public program.  This project provides an international career development opportunity for two generations of fibre artists and also significantly raises the international profile of NT Aboriginal art and artists.
  • Clara Crocodile, a children’s album developed and produced by Alice Springs singer-songwriter, Sally Balfour. The album will be produced in the Territory with local producers, artists and musicians including Ted Egan, Warren H Williams, Dave Crowe and more.

Quotes from Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

“The Territory Government’s Arts Grants Program supports the development of local artists to showcase their work, while growing our creative industries, creating new jobs and enriching our community through arts and cultural activities.

“This funding will assist Territory artists to develop and present new works across a range of art forms including literature, music, art and fashion.

“We have so many amazing and unique stories to tell through our arts community, and that’s why it’s so important to encourage Territory talent and assist them to enhance their artistic skills and present their works to audiences in the NT and beyond.”
