A Bright Future for Darwin Ovals

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government is continuing to deliver on its election commitment to invest in urban lights at sporting ovals with the release of design and construct tenders for Gardens Oval, Bagot Oval and Nightcliff Oval.

Investment in lights will create jobs for Territorians and allow the sporting codes to provide more opportunities for junior and female participation.

The Urban Lights Program aims to increase opportunities for the community to participate in sport and help deliver positive outcomes to foster our vibrant communities.

Tenders to deliver the project have been released and will close on 23 August 2019 with local businesses given preference through a weighted tender system.

Mid-week and weekend night fixtures will soon be possible, growing participation and encouraging more women, girls and juniors to stay active.”
