Expressions of Interest Open for 2021 Arafura Games

Office of the Chief Minister

Planning for the 2021 Arafura Games is underway with an expression of interest process released today for sports to put their hand up to be involved in 2021.

The expression of interest is open for six weeks, closing on 27 September 2019.

Participation at the games will be offered to the peak sports bodies responsible for delivering their sport in the Territory, as well as national and international sports federations and leagues in a partnership delivery model.

The expression of interest will be sent to all sport contacts who have previously expressed an interest, sports that were on the 2019 program and will also be available on the Arafura Games website. It will detail key considerations for determining the 2021 sport program.

The final sport program will be determined by the Arafura Games Advisory Committee.

Interested sports can submit an expression of interest at https://arafuragames.nt.gov.au/opportunities/

Quotes from Minister for the Arafura Games Natasha Fyles:

“The 2019 Arafura Game generated $13million in economic activity for the Top End, creating jobs and income for our local businesses.

“The local and international response to the games has been overwhelmingly positive, after the CLP scrapped the games in 2012.

“We are already planning for the 2021 games to be bigger and better than the 2019 edition, and encourage any interested sports to get on board with the one of the Territory’s biggest sporting and community events."
